Totally Hawaii is an independently run travel directory, built page by page rather than launched all at once. We're not a booking platform — we don't sell rooms, tours or flights — and we don't accept payment in exchange for a specific recommendation. Where we link out to hotels, tours or restaurants, it's because a page earned the mention on its own merits.
Every page on this site is written specifically for Hawaiʻi — not adapted from a generic travel template — and checked against multiple current sources before it's published, including official channels like the National Park Service and USGS for anything time-sensitive (trail conditions, volcanic activity, alerts). Facts that can go stale — prices, operating hours, eruption status — are written to point to the authoritative live source rather than a number that will be wrong in six months. If you spot something that's changed, tell us and we'll fix it.
Hawaiʻi's visitors come from Japan, Korea, mainland China and Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand, Canada, the UK, and across Latin America and Europe — not just the US mainland. We're building Totally Hawaii to eventually serve 16 languages, structured so each translated section grows in step with the English original rather than lagging years behind it. Spanish, Japanese and French are live so far, starting with translated homepages, with full department translations and more languages to follow.
Where a famous spot isn't actually the best choice for a given traveler, we'll say so, even if that's a less exciting page to write. Where conditions (weather, reef health, trail status, eruption activity) genuinely change, we say to check the current, authoritative source rather than guessing.
